FUNCTION/TECHNICAL OPERATION
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) was first brought to market by BMW, the BMW steering angle sensor provides the DSC (dynamic stability control) with the overall steering wheel angle as measured by the steering angle sensor.
DSC is intended to maintain a vehicle’s intended course when the driver inadvertently over- or under-steers, even on surfaces where some or all of the wheels have different levels of traction.
It does this by combining information from sensors that monitor not only the steering angle, but wheel rotation and the lateral forces exerted on the vehicle by acceleration. The control unit compares this information to an idealized scenario stored in its memory and acts to minimize the differences between the perfect readings and the actual readings.
SYMPTOMS/FAULTS
- Causes the ABS, DSC 4x4 and traction control lights to light up in dash
- Steering angle sensor values jump up and down with no actual steering wheel movement
- (68) 104 Steering angle sensor, internal.
- Trouble code 68 and 54558
FAILURE
99% of faults with the steering angle sensor are due to worn out brushes. These brushes wear over time due to friction.
SOLUTION
By replacing the sensor ring with worn out brushes, with our over engineered sensor ring with thicker more robust brushes we guarantee it will out last the life of your vehicle and fix your steering angel sensor.
NO coding or programming is needed, after the repair the steering angle sensor is plug and play, only the steering angle needs to be calibrated, which can be done easily with any cheap diagnostic testing tool which supports this function.
Please note the kit does not come with a complete steering angle sensor, it is only shown for descriptive purposes.
