AIRBAG MODULE CRASH DATA RESET
The supplemental Restraint System’s (SRS) purpose is to provide protection by deploying airbags in the event of impact to the vehicle. Every time the vehicle is turned on, the SRS system performs a self-test function. You will see the airbag light turn on for a few seconds and off again. If it stays off the system has no faults, however if it turns back on, and stays on, there is a fault in the SRS system.
When an impact is detected by the airbag module, it determines from specific inputs and sensors it uses for feedback, what airbags to deploy and at what speed. Some Airbags have two stages of deployment which determine how fast they deploy. This is known as stage 1 or stage 2 deployment.
When the airbag module triggers these deployments, information is stored inside it known as crash data. When three or more airbags are deployed the recorded data puts the module in a “defective state”. However, the hardware of the module is still intact and not faulty at all, it is only data telling the system the module is faulty and needs replacing.
This data cannot be cleared with any dealership or third-party diagnostic scanners. The owner is forced to buy either a new module which is very expensive (in the thousands) or a second-hand unit. We have experienced many times even second-hand units come with pre stored crash data, and on top of that, need to be programmed to the vehicles vin number to function correctly.
At BMA-AUTOHAUS we specialize in clearing crash data, making the SRS airbag module like new. This is called crash data reset. The reset only clears the crash data and any error codes (DTC’S), it does not affect the vehicle specific data like the vin number etc, which makes the module plug and play with no extra programming required. We have a support list of over 12,000 modules and our list is continually growing and is updated monthly. We can even clear crash data in vehicles of the current year!!
When searching for an airbag part number, some air bag modules can possibly have 2 different part numbers on their identification label. For example, an airbag module from a BMW and made by Bosch, will have both a BMW part number and a Bosch part number. When looking for your modules part number in our list, you can try using both numbers. Like in the exampled picture. If you can’t find your modules part number in our list, please don’t worry we can still clear it.
